Mobile Photography

When people ask me about the cameras I use, my response varies. I’ve always said “the best camera you have is the one that is with you”. In addition to my DSLR, I’ve used point and shoots, and my phone. However, until last week, my phone camera was an older Galaxy S III which I’d had for 3 1/2 years.  While the S III’s camera wasn’t a total slouch (8 MP), I’ve discovered that the mobile camera technology has greatly advanced in the last few years. Last week, I replaced my trusty S III with the Note 4, and it’s 16MP camera, and I have been blown away by the detail of the few photos I’ve taken so far.

Mobile photography means any photo that was taken with a mobile device, other than a regular camera, like a cell phone or tablet. Obviously, with the abundance of cell phones, the genre of mobile photography has taken off. In fact, some stock image companies even have stock images taken with mobile devices. Since I have now got a device that megapixel-wise can take much bigger photos, I’ve decided to explore the genre in greater detail.

As I explore, I’m going to put together some links and information to help others learn about that camera that’s almost always with them. Although I have an Android system, I know many have iPhones, so I will address them as well.  Readers can start with the two links below. They should get you started.

In the mean time, I took the photo below with my new Note 4 the other day. Can you see the possibilities?
